A tooth count table is only one part of the selection. The same HSS blade may cut well or fail quickly depending on spindle speed, feed per tooth, lubrication and machine stability.

RPM = cutting speed x 1000 / (blade diameter x 3.14). For example, a 300mm HSS blade cutting medium carbon steel at 30 m/min is about 32 rpm.

Can We Quote From An Old HSS Saw Blade Photo?

In many cases, yes. If the customer wants to repeat the old specification, photos can be very helpful. But the photo must clearly show the printed blade size information on the old blade.

The most useful photo is not only a full blade photo. It should also show the marking area clearly, including outer diameter, thickness, bore size, tooth count, material grade, coating or any special factory code. If the marking is blurred or missing, we still need the tube material, tube wall thickness, machine model and current cutting problem.

Common Misunderstandings

More teeth are not always better

More teeth can help thin-wall tube cutting, but thick sections need chip space. If the pitch is too fine, chips cannot leave smoothly and the blade may overheat.

HSS blade size format is different from TCT and cermet

HSS and GF blades are usually solid HSS material blades without welded tips, so they are commonly written as outer diameter x thickness x bore x teeth. TCT and cermet blades usually separate kerf and plate thickness, for example 285 x 2.0/1.75 x 32 x 80T.

Old blade photos need markings, not only appearance

A photo of the tooth edge or blade surface can show wear, coating and tooth shape, but it does not always confirm the exact specification. Printed size information is still the safest reference for repeat quotation.
