Many Quotations Are Slow Because The Inquiry Is Incomplete

A circular saw blade inquiry often gets delayed because the buyer only sends one short line, such as “Please quote saw blade 300mm.” That information is not enough to know whether the blade is a GF saw blade, HSS circular saw blade, TCT saw blade, cermet cold saw blade or circular knife.

The key point is that different blade families need different quotation data. HSS and GF saw blades are usually one-piece HSS material blades, so the normal specification is outside diameter, thickness, bore and tooth count. TCT and cermet cold saw blades usually have welded tips, so kerf, plate thickness, tip geometry and machine fit become much more important.

Useful Inquiry

We need a cermet cold saw blade for cutting carbon steel tube on an automatic circular saw machine. Current size is 315 x 2.0/1.6 x 32mm x 120T, with 2/9/55 pin holes.

This gives the product direction, application, machine and main dimensions, so the supplier can ask only the missing details.

Step 1: Start With What You Cut

The cutting material is often more reliable than the product name in the first inquiry. Customers may use different names for saw blades, but the workpiece and machine condition usually reveal the real application.

Step 2: Use The Correct Size Format

For HSS circular saw blades and GF saw blades, the normal format is:

HSS / GF saw blades: OD x thickness x bore x teeth

Example: 80 x 1.0 x 16mm x 80T, for stainless steel tube cutting.

For TCT saw blades and cermet cold saw blades, the size should separate total cutting width from the blade body thickness:

TCT / cermet saw blades: OD x kerf/plate thickness x bore x teeth

Example: 285 x 2.0/1.75 x 32mm x 80T.

Step 3: Do Not Send Only A Tooth Form Name

Many customers ask, “Can you make this tooth form?” But a tooth form name alone is not enough, because HSS/GF tooth logic and TCT/cermet tip geometry are not the same system.

For HSS and GF blades, suppliers usually need tooth count, pitch, rake, clearance, chip space, coating and cutting material. For TCT and cermet blades, they also need tip geometry, kerf, plate thickness and whether the blade is designed for aluminum, wood, steel tube or high-speed flying cut-off.

Step 4: Send Photos That Help Technical Judgment

Photos are useful only when they help the supplier judge dimensions, tooth geometry, machine fit and cutting condition. A single angled photo often creates more questions than answers.
