Short Answer: They Are Not The Same Product
TCT saw blades and cermet cold saw blades can look similar in a quick photo because both are circular blades with cutting teeth around the edge. However, the application is different. A TCT blade is usually a carbide tipped blade used for wood, aluminum, plastic, non-ferrous metal or construction-related materials. A cermet cold saw blade is mainly designed for steel tube, steel bar and profile cutting on high-speed circular sawing machines, often called 圆锯机 in Chinese factories.
The most important question is not “Is it TCT or cermet?” The better question is: what material is being cut, on what machine, and what cutting result is required?
Visual Difference: Check The Sound Damping Lines
The fastest visual clue is on the steel body. Many TCT saw blades have laser-cut sound damping lines or expansion slots. Cermet cold saw blades usually have a cleaner body design and are identified more by their cermet tooth tips, coating and steel cutting application.

Why The Confusion Happens
In many markets, buyers use “TCT” as a broad name for any circular saw blade with visible tips. This is understandable, but not technically accurate. “TCT” refers to carbide tipped technology. Cermet is a different cutting tip material, selected for specific steel cutting conditions. If the buyer only sends a blade photo without the machine and material, the supplier may not be able to quote correctly.
The confusion is especially common when the blade is thin, has a steel body, and the tooth tips are brazed around the outside diameter. From a distance, TCT and cermet can both look like “tipped circular saw blades”. A useful visual clue is the sound damping line: many TCT saw blades have laser-cut noise-reduction or expansion slots on the body, while cermet cold saw blades normally do not use the same TCT-style damping line design. The final confirmation still comes from the cutting material, machine speed, tooth geometry, coating and damage pattern.

Material And Machine Matter More Than The Name
A correct quotation starts with the actual cutting condition. For example, a 350 mm circular blade for aluminum profile and a 350 mm cermet cold saw blade for steel tube may have a similar outside diameter, but the design logic is not the same. Tooth shape, carbide or cermet grade, plate thickness, kerf, bore, locating holes, coating and balance requirements all depend on the application.
If a customer asks for a “TCT blade for steel tube”, we first need to check whether the machine is a steel circular sawing machine and whether the current blade is actually cermet or carbide tipped. If a customer asks for a “cermet blade for aluminum”, the first check is whether a normal aluminum TCT blade would be more suitable.
